Dolomite is an important sedimentary and metamorphic mineral, found in dolostones and metadolostones, and as an important mineral in limestones and marbles where calcite is the major mineral present. Dolomite crystal beds on a dolomite matrix collected from Cumbria, exhibiting excellent crystal structure, these mineral specimens show the typical tri-rhombohedral curved faces which one associates with dolomite. Its colour is due to hematite staining, which is often the case with Cumbrian dolomite. Once common, samples of dolomite are increasingly becoming difficult to obtain due to closure of the last remaining hematite mine, (Florence mine) some years ago. Excellent high quality British mineral specimens which we can offer in various sizes ranging from 20 mm to 100 mm,the samples will come supplied in a polythene bag with an information card, ideal where large quantities are required for lower costs, such as for schools, kits and hand outs.

This pure olivine, also known as Dunite Peridotite shows a bright green colouration. The specimens come from Norway and may contain streaks of the rare mineral Kammererite which appears silver in colour. Some specimens may be granular in texture whereas some may be more crystalline. Specimens are supplied in a polythene bag in lots of 1 kg with a label.

Blue calcite mineral samples supplied by weight, this blue variation is due to the presence of oxidised copper impurities within the crystals. These particular samples also show the rhombic crystal structure of calcite and can easily be seen with the naked eye. When formed in masses such as these pieces, the samples are known as ‘massive’. This blue calcite is available by weight, starting from 500 grams, and is suitable for lapidary, educational and enthusiasts use. the pieces vary from 20 mm to 100 mm though most pieces will sit in-between and come supplied in a polythene bag with a label.
