Specimens of fluorescent copal from Cape Amber, Madagascar. Copal is a younger variant of amber, scientifically known as Trachylobium Verrucosum it is the fossilised remains of tree resin, a sap which trees secret when damage to their bark or surface has been incurred usually. Just like amber, this sap when secreted, is thick and viscous, as it runs down the tree, any particle and even small animals are caught, unable to break free, they are fossilised perfectly as the sap hardens. These pieces of copal fluoresce a pale yellow to green colour when under shortwave UV light. These samples are perfect for educational use and would also make a great addition to any mineral collection, they are supplied in a 1.5″ x 1.5″ white card tray with an information label.

Calcite rhombs are the massive forms of calcite crystals, exhibiting the rhombic (cubic) crystal nature excellently. These mineral specimens from Morocco also display excellent fluorescent properties, while viewed under natural lighting, they rhombs are a pale off white colour, however, when viewed under short wave UV lighting, they fluoresce an extraordinary, vivid pink and red colour, the complete opposite of what you would expect.
