Kimmeridge clay thin section slide exhibiting the incredibly fine grained nature of this rock. Despite being so fine, individual clay grade minerals can be identified along with organics arranged in an obvious orientation. The clay its self is named from its type location, the village of Kimmeridge along the Dorset coast, UK. It is of Jurassic age and is regarding as one of the most economically important rocks in all of Europe as it has distinctive physical properties, log responses, and palynological signature in petrographic exploration, thus making it a major source rock for oil fields in the North Sea hydrocarbon province. The slides are 30 microns thick and measure 46 x 27 mm in size and have a cover slip of the section along with a protective cardboard sleeve.

Oxford clay from Scarborough, North Yorkshire, a grey to green colour exhibiting a fine grained texture, these rock specimens are Jurassic in age and are available in various sizes.
Boulder clay from Yorkshire, UK from the Pleistocene period, shows random sized various clasts within a glacial clay matrix. Formed through various glacial or ice sheet processes, these sedimentary rocks are available in various sizes.
Kimmeridge clay is a fine grained sedimentary rock of Jurassic age, it can contain various fossils from invertebrates to large fauna such as dinosaurs and crocodiles. These specimens come from Kimmeridge, Dorest, UK and are available in various sizes.
We also supply Kimmeridge Clay thin sections for microscope study which are available to buy HERE.
Siltstone microscope slide exhibiting the fine to very fine grained nature of this sedimentary rock. The slides often show concentrated bands of mica which punctuate the dominant quartz mass. Excellent to observe the nature of the minerals and distinguish the history of the rock. The glass slide is 46 x 27 mm in size, suitable for enthusiasts, educational use and more, it will come in card sleeve with a label.

Norwegian gneiss thin section slide exhibiting a dominant felsic composition i.e. quartz and plagioclase with less prominent mafic bands. We collected this material from Evje, Norway. Each section is made to 30 microns thickness and the glass is 46 x 27 mm, ideal for microscopy and educational purposes.

Shale microscope slide showing thin black lenses of organic matter (in XPL view) which fell from suspension in very low energy environments. The section is made to 30 microns thickness and the glass is 46 x 27 mm in size with a cover slip. Supplied in a protective card sleeve with a label, ideal for microscopy.

Oolitic limestone thin section slide exhibiting textbook ooid grains, some with a clear nucleus and concentric calcareous layers. These microscope slides supplement the hand specimens nicely and allow for a more detailed view of the ooid grains and an opportunity to intepret the diagenetic history of the rock.
