Specimens of pink agate from India. Agate is a common silica mineral and a variety of chalcedony, usually forming within the cavities of volcanic rocks. Agate is comprised of banded fibrous chalcedony, the crystals of which can be quite difficult to see resulting in agates classification as having a cryptocrystalline habit. The banding within the agate is a result of changing translucency within the mineral, these bands may also vary in colour if other minerals are present. These particular specimens of agate have an attractive pale pink colouration with small – moderate amounts of brown agate present. Some specimens may also contain cavities filled with pale pink to white quartz crystals. Samples are supplied in a white card tray with an information label.
