Isastrea fossil coral of Jurassic age, collected from Steeple Ashton, Wiltshire, UK. Isastrea is an extinct species of Scleractinian coral which existed in the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. These reef building corals had a symbiotic relationship with photosynthetic algae and so lived in in shallow, warm, clear marine waters. This coral is an important palaeoenvironmental tool and would be a wonderful addition to any serious collectors collection. This specimen is 9 x 7 cm and is supplied within a 3 x 2 inch card tray with an information label.
