Mica schist thin section microscope slide exhibiting an alignment of platy minerals within this popular metamorphic rock. The alignment of platy minerals, in this case biotite and muscovite mica produces a texture known as foliation. Foliation occurs as a result of directed pressure which can either rotate platy minerals or recrystallise minerals in the direction of preferred orientation, or both. These rock specimens are from the Dalradian series, a complicated group of various metamorphic rocks which are dated to the Pre-Cambrian period and is present in both Scotland and Ireland. Each section is made to 30 microns thickness and the glass is 46 x 27 mm in size with a cover slip. Supplied in a protective card sleeve with a label, ideal for microscopy and educational purposes.
