Microscope slides of apatite from Madagascar, these slides display the crystal structure of the mineral on a microscopic level which assists in the identification of this mineral in other slides. Apatite is actually the name given to a group of minerals which include hydroxylapatite, fluorapatite and chlorapatite. It is a phosphate mineral that has a vitreous lustre, shining slightly when viewed under certain angles of light and gives a white streak, the primary use is in the manufacture of fertilizer due to it being a source of phosphorus, generally it can come in a wide variety of colours and crystal habits. Each section is made to 30 microns thickness and the glass is 46 x 27 mm in size, supplied in a protective card sleeve with a label, ideal for microscopy & educational use.
