Microscope slides of apatite from Madagascar, these slides display the crystal structure of the mineral on a microscopic level which assists in the identification of this mineral in other slides. Apatite is actually the name given to a group of minerals which include hydroxylapatite, fluorapatite and chlorapatite. It is a phosphate mineral that has a vitreous lustre, shining slightly when viewed under certain angles of light and gives a white streak, the primary use is in the manufacture of fertilizer due to it being a source of phosphorus, generally it can come in a wide variety of colours and crystal habits. Each section is made to 30 microns thickness and the glass is 46 x 27 mm in size, supplied in a protective card sleeve with a label, ideal for microscopy & educational use.

Vanadinite mineral specimens with a striking rich red to orange colouration formed as crystal masses on a limestone bed. The crystals vary in size and were collected in Mibladen, Morocco. It forms during the oxidation of lead ores in arid environments such as deserts. Samples are available in various sizes and supplied in a card tray with a data label.
Apatite crystals found in Morocco with a green hue and a semi transparent appearance. These crystals very from 0.5 – 1.5cm and come supplied in a pack of 5 pieces. Specimens are supplied in a small polythene bag with a information label. Apatite is a phosphate mineral that has a vitreous lustre and a white streak but do not show good terminations. Its primary use is in the manufacture of fertiliser due it being a source of phosphorus. Hornfels thin section microscope slide exhibiting a dark colour and a characteristic none crystalline form. Fine grains fit together like the fragments of a mosaic, this is often referred to as rough pavement or pavement structure. Larger quartz clasts are visible but these have recrystallised to form a fine, interlocking mosaic of quartz within the original grain cast.

Lignite thin section slide. Lignite coal and indeed all other varieties of coal are classed as organic sedimentary rocks. It has a high carbon content 25 – 35% & a moisture content up to 66%. The high volatile component of lignite is clearly reflected in the thin section view, particularly when compared with those of higher grade coals.
