Fossiliferous shale microscope slide showing thin black lenses of organic matter ( in XPL view ) which fell from suspension in very low energy environments. Some thin sections offer an unexpected insight into just how heterogeneous these particularly fine grained sediments can be. Occasional fragments of shell can be recognised from fauna including bivalves, ammonites and belemnites. Bioturbation traces can sometimes be seen punctuating the organic matrix. Naturally we cannot guarantee what each slide will exhibit but we can guarantee that the slides are made from organic shale which we collected from the deep marine, Jurassic sediments of the Yorkshire coast. The section is made to 30 microns thickness and the glass is 46 x 27 mm in size with a cover slip. Supplied in a protective card sleeve with a label, ideal for microscopy.
