Talc is a common clay mineral easily identifiable due to its greasy texture. It forms only rarely as a crystal form, and most variations or of the massive kind where the texture is very finely crystalline. Colours can vary from white to green to pale blue. It has a perfect basal cleavage, when broken, tends to break in slices or slabs, similar to slate. Being extremely soft, it is placed at 1 on the Moh’s scale of hardness and can be scratched and chipped simply with your finger nail. Many people will also use talc almost every day with out realising, it is the main ingredient in the manufacture of talcum powder as well as in corn starch. These particular samples from Norway have a pale green colouration with a shimmering dark green, which are the talc crystals. Available in various sizes, they exhibit the greasy texture and cleavage perfectly, supplied in a card tray with an information label.
