Selenite is a variety of the mineral gypsum, it has a pearly lustre and is transluscent, letting most light through but not all. There particular crystals come from Oxford in the UK and were found in the Oxford clay. It is an evaporite mineral, left over when a saline solution present millions or years ago during the Jurassic period evoporated, leaving the selenite behind. The crystals form in cluster and are randomly orientated, but seem to be comprised of a large central crystal with smaller growths surrounding it. These mineral specimens are available in 2 sizes and come supplied in a card tray with an information label.
