Blue lace agate specimens details alternating bands of calming shades of blue within the mineral, these beautiful bands are actually down to volcanic processes. Cavities in igneous rocks usually allow siliceous matter to be deposited in layers in these cavities (although sometimes, it can form in cracks and fractures as veins too). This process is what gives the agate its banded appearance. Agate is a cryptocrystalline variety of silica, chiefly chalcedony, characterised by its fineness of grain and brightness of colour banding. Known from ancient times, it is one of the most common mineral used in hardstone carving and lapidary, being found in many pieces of jewellery from ancient times to the present. These mineral specimens of blue lace agate come from Botswana and are characterised by delicate blue and white banding. Available in a variety of sizes, each supplied in a labelled card tray.
