Calcite and selenite are often found together as both minerals can form through evaporation of a solution. The minerals within the solution leave behind pointed tip crystals known as dog tooth calcite and large, clear crystals of selenite with flat clear surfaces. These crystals appear to have formed in pockets of limestone and appear like fragments of geodes. It can be inferred that the samples formed through percolation of liquid carrying elements, creating groves and hollows within the limestone. Evaporation causes the water to heat and evaporate leaving being the calcite and selenite to form as crystal. The limestone matrix is a yellow, beige colour where as the crystals within are transparent, allowing the colour of the matrix through. Found in Jebel Saghro in Morocco, these excellent mineral specimens, which show well, how the crystals can form under preferred conditions, we can supply the pieces in various sizes, they will come in a card tray with an information label.
