Specimens of fluorite groups from Coldstones Quarry, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, UK. Fluorite is a popular mineral specimen for many, children, teachers, collectors etc, it often forms with a cubic crystal habit with the crystals being a variety of colours and sizes from deep rich purples, vibrant greens, calming yellows and sometimes crystal clear. The history of fluorspar mining in the region began in 1882 and finally finished in 1999, with the closure of the Frazer Hush Mine. These samples while not as high grade as our samples from Derbyshire are still excellent for educational use. They are also great for smaller mineral collections and collectors of British minerals. These specimens are clear in colour but are somewhat translucent due to mineral impurities. These pieces are supplied in a white card tray with an information label.

Fluorite octahedrons, these crystals specimens display in excellent quality another variation of the minerals, fluorites crystal habits, the octahedron. The crystals each have exactly 8 faces, hence the octahedron name. During formation, if the crystals have four perfect cleavage planes, octahedral shapes are produced. These particular samples come from China, each one is slightly translucent, letting though partial light and they all vary slightly in colour through various shades of green, purple and clear. It is important to note that these crystals, are genuine fluorite, they have been broken down, using the minerals own habit into the octahedron form. We offer them in two sizes small and large with each coming in a polythene bag with a label.
Small: Approximately 1 – 1.5cm
Large: 2+ cm
All measurements taken at the widest points
Fluorite (also known as fluorspar) crystal beds with galena collected from Ashover, Derbyshire. Fluorite is a popular mineral specimen for many, children, teachers, collectors etc, it often forms with a cubic crystal habit with the crystals being a variety of colours and sizes from deep rich purples, vibrant greens, calming yellows and sometimes crystal clear. These particular fluorite crystals on matrix vary with any of the mentioned colours above. Some specimens exhibit well developed galena crystals along with the fluorite however it can be less obvious in others. We supply 2″ x 2″, 3″ x 2″ and 4″ x 3″ specimens; each in a card tray with an information label.
Fluorite crystal beds on a matrix from the famous Weardale locality in County Durham, UK, specimens exhibit a range of colours from rich greens, to deep purples, calming yellows and crystal clear samples, available in a variety of sizes. These mineral specimens are ideal for collectors, children and educational use, supplied in a card tray with a data label.
Fluorite mineral specimens found in Morocco, a common mineral, used in various manufacturing process today. Exhibiting various colours, ranging from hues of green, purple and clear. The samples are massive crystalline with cubic crystals present as well. Available in two sizes, supplied in a card tray with a label.
Halite mineral specimens from the Boulby mine in Redcar, North Yorkshire, UK. Halite is a salt mineral and has a cubic crystal system and vitreous lustre, these specimens are rough and available in various sizes, suitable for educational use, supplied in a card tray with a label.

Fulgerite mineral specimens from Algeria, formed from lightening strikes which pieces the desert sands instantly melting and fusing the quartz crystals creating a light weight hollow piece of rock.
Pyrite on Rhaetic Bone Bed collected from Westbury-on-Severn, Gloucestershire. Of our specimens it is the pyrite crystal bed which is the key feature, some specimens may exhibit bones or scales but naturally this is no guarantee

Baryte (also spelt barite) is a widely occurring mineral consisting of barium sulphate, they can occur with many crystal habits, in this case, these mineral specimens exhibit the cockscomb mass form, in which randomly orientated blades of the mineral occur on a massive bed. These particular specimens are a pink or orange colour with a pink bed but other colours of baryte exists, including white, buff or brown. Any barite specimen is incredibly dense, with small pieces even feeling heavier than they appear, which is surprising, considering it is a non metallic mineral. This density was how the mineral obtained its name, being derived from the Greek word ‘βάρυζ’ meaning heavy. It occurs in a range of environments and deposited via many processes including biogenic, hydrothermal and evaporation, among others. Commonly occurring in lead-zinc veins hence some of the samples contain galena (lead sulphide) as well. Over 75% of baryte extracted worldwide is used for weighting driling fluids in oil and gas exploration to control high formation pressures and prevent blowouts. These mineral specimens were mined in Mibladen, Morocco, they are available in various sizes, each specimen is supplied in a labelled card tray.
Chalcopyrite mineral specimens from Sulitjelma, Norway, a major copper ore mineral, these pieces exhibit excellent quality chalcopyrite detailing the shiny brassy yellow colouration and metallic lustre expected. These mineral specimens are approximately 70% – 80% chalcopyrite and are available in various sizes and come supplied in card tray with an information label.
Milky quartz mineral specimens from Norway, with a pale white colouration, hence the name, sometimes also known as white quartz, snow quartz or simply quartz. These particular samples were collected by staff from Iveland, Norway. This locality is also where we collected the smokey quartz from. It is in a massive form and has a very fine crystalline texture, this also results in it sometimes being sharp, so caution is advised when handling these samples. It is available in various sizes and supplied in a card tray with an information label.
Cut ulexite mineral specimens from California, USA. A mineral similar to gypsum, ulexite is able to transmit light through its long axis, meaning if placed above an image or text, will transmit it to the samples surface as an image. Hence the name TV rock, excellent for children, these pieces are available in several sizes and will come supplied in a card tray with an information label.
These particular samples are a milky white to pale yellow colour and show typical fibrous crystal habit expected from Witherite. Samples are supplied in a white card with an information label.
Iceland spar is a clear variation of calcite, it exhibits the rhombic crystal system of calcite perfectly, the crystals easily divide into rhombs, making them well sought after for a variety of reasons. Originally reported from Helgustadir Mine, Eskifjord, Iceland, hence its name. One of the most remarkable aspect of Iceland spar is its refractive properties. When light passes through one of the crystals, it is divided into two rays at different angles which results in a double refraction effect. Essentially, anything seen though the crystal is seen in double. This can best be seen if you place the calcite over some text, it will appear as if it has been printed twice. These mineral samples come from Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico and are available in 2 sizes: Upto 1″ and Over 1″. They come in a card tray with an information label.
Baryte mineral specimens collected form Somerset in the UK, exhibiting a bladed crystal habit or massive form, the dense specimens are an off white, yellow or brown colour due to staining from hematite (iron ore), available in various sizes, ideal for educational use.
Orthocalse feldspar mineral specimens from Evje, Norway. It exhibits a pale pink, white or pale grey colouration with excellent cleavage planes with rhombic crystal forms, a common mineral found in granites and rhyolites, orthoclase belongs to the feldspar family of minerals and can be found all over the world. Specimens are available in various sizes and come supplied in a card tray with an information label.
