Specimens of Pyrite originating from the Chispa Mine in Huanzala, Peru. This Peruvian Pyrite is of a higher grade than our other material, thereby making it more desirable to collectors. These specimens are ideal for displaying pyrite’s signature cubic crystal habit. Iron pyrite is famous for being called “fool’s gold”. This is because its shiny, brassy yellow colour often tricked inexperienced miners into believing they had found a large vein of gold where in reality it was simply pyrite instead. This was most common during the USA gold rush of the 1840’s. Pyrite is a sulphide mineral, which is a group of inorganic compounds consisting of sulphur and at least one more element. Pyrite is an iron disulphide, with a chemical composition of FeS2.
These Peruvian pyrite specimens are an ideal addition to any collection, as well as being excellent teaching samples too. They are available in a range of sizes and come displayed in a white card tray with an information label.
