Specimens of Strontianite, collected from France. Strontianite is a rare strontium carbonate mineral making it one of the most crucial raw materials for the extraction of strontium. Strontium has a range of uses, most primarily being used in the maufacture of cathode-ray tubes for colour television. Whilst this application is less common now due to the rise of alternative methods, it still finds use in the creation of glow in the dark toys, fireworks (to give them a deep red colour), and ferrite magnets. Strontianite has a unique pale green colouration and, combined with its rarity, makes it an ideal speciemen for any collection. Additionally, some fluorescence may be noticeable in these specimens.
