Distichoceras bicostatum ammonite fossil collected from the Jurassic Oxford Clays of Woodham, Buckinghamshire, UK. Distichoceras is an extinct genus of ammonite which existed during Late Jurassic through to Late Cretaceous times. They were nektonic carvonivores which fell to the sea floor upon death. These examples were preserved within an oxygen starved deep marine shelf which gave rise to the Oxford Clay Formation. These specimens have evolute and relatively compressed shells which are feebly ribbed. Ribs become more prominent towards the venter and they end in prominent tubercles along the ventral margin. Two sizes are available: a particularly rare large specimen – 4 cm in diameter and small specimens which vary between 1 and 2 cm in diameter. Each specimen is supplied in a small plastic bag with an information label.
