Estuarine sandstone as the name implies was laid down as fine cross bedded deposits at the mouths of rivers. Occasional marine incursions are evident from fossils & ripple bedding. Some of the fine beds are peppered with mica flakes. This example is from the Carboniferous of Derbyshire. Samples come by weight in bags of 1 kilo, sizes will vary.

Specimens of Sandstone, collected from Philpots Quarry, West Sussex, in the UK. This sandstone is from the Wealden Group (Hastings sub-group), which dates it to the Lower Cretaceous. This makes these rocks approximately 110 million years old. This Cretaceous sandstone is yellow to buff in coloured, and particularly fine grained. It exhibits large scale cross bedding, which is indicative of fast flowing tidal currents. It is quite soft , friable and flaggy in places and so is extracted mainly for concreting and building sand. These specimens are available in multiple sizes and come supplied in a white card tray with information label.
We also supply Cretaceous Sandstone thin sections for microscope study which are available to buy HERE.

Specimens of Estuarine Sandstone, collected from Lancashire. Sandstone is a common, well known sedimentary rock, primarily composed of quartz grains. Estuarine sandstone as the name implies was laid down as fine cross bedded deposits at the mouths of rivers. Occasional marine incursions are evident from fossils & ripple bedding. Some of the fine beds are peppered with mica flakes. Specimens are supplied in a white card tray with information label.
We also supply Deltaic Sandstone thin sections for microscope study which are available to buy HERE.
Torridonian Sandstone from Loch Kishorn, Scotland. The sandstone of pre-cambrian age and among the oldest rocks found in the British isles and gets its name from Torridon where it is found. Supplied by weight, sizes vary.
Micaceous Sandstone. As the name suggests, this type of sandstone contains flakes of mica which can be seen glinting in the specimens.

Rhyolite Felsite, a highly felsitic composed variation of Rhyolite, found in Scotland. Specimens are supplied in a polythene bag in lots of 1 kg with a label.
This Mahogany obsidian is sourced in the United States of America. Impurities of magnesium and iron give this variety a red or brown appearance hence the name ‘mahogany obsidian’ or oak obsidian. Specimens are supplied in a polythene bag in lots of 1 kg with a label.

Shap granite igneous rock specimens from Shap Fell, Cumbria, UK which exhibit typical coarse grained crystalline textures expected of intrusive felsic rocks, being composed of quartz, plagioclase and orthoclase feldspar and biotite mica. This popular granite is very sought after for a variety of applications and has a colourful appearance. It is believed to have formed during the early Devonian period as a plutonic intrusion in the area and is quarried extensively. Samples are ideal for collectors of all levels and ages as well as all educational levels as the minerals can be easily described with the origin and processes being suitable to teach higher level students. Samples are available in three sizes and come supplied in a card tray with an information label.

Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass derived from a rapidly cooled high silica lava. Often associated with the margins of Rhyolitic lava flows. It has little or no discernable crystalline structure. Specimens are supplied in a polythene bag in lots of 1 kg with a label.

Accretionary lapilli tuff is an igneous pyroclastic rock, these samples come from Longsleddle, Cumbria in the UK and forms when hot ash and debris is ejected from as volcano. Some of this material is held together by moisture and once heavy enough, falls into the ash below forming small ‘spots’ within the material, creating a speckled rock. The samples are suitable both for young and serious collectors as well as educational use and are supplied in various sizes with a card tray and label.
