The igneous field data card contains information of igneous rock textures you will commonly find in the field as well as some of the more common igneous rocks such as basalts, granites, gabbros and more. IT displays a guide on how to determine a rock sample by observing it’s silica and texture content and offers data on the temperatures that lead to its formation. The card has been laminated so is waterproof and wont rip, making it ideal for students and also professional geologists, having a handy reference available at short notice, especially if you are about to partake in your field mapping projects.

A5 in size, the card contains relevant geological data on both sides. One side contains over 40 different sedimentary logging symbols such as ‘Breccia’, ‘cross bedding’, ‘tuff’, and so forth.. Garnet peridotite igneous rock specimens found in the Gusdal Olivine Pit, Åheim, Norway is an ultra mafic rock which contains high pressure and temperature minerals such as olivine and garnet crystals. Exhibiting a green colouraiton with striking red spots, these samples were pushed up to the earths crust during the Caledonian orogeny during the Ordovician and Devonian period over 400 million years ago. The specimens are dense as expected and are ideal for children and serious collectors because of the colourful appearance as well as for higher educational use to describe deep mantle material as well as orogenic processes. The hand samples are available in various sizes and come supplied in a card tray with an information label.

Specimens of Rapakivi Granite sourced from South Finland, which have undergone cutting and polishing. This particular rock belongs to the Granite family, and shares the typical characteristics of granite. Those being a coarse-grained, plutonic igneous rock, consisting of orthoclase feldspar, quartz, and biotite mica. Each piece comes packaged in a white card tray accompanied by an information label.
Biotite muscovite granite specimens from St. Austell in Cornwall, UK of Permian age is a coarse grained igneous rock composed of quartz, plagioclase feldspar, biotite and muscovite. The rock is part of the St. Austell pluton which formed 280 million years ago. An off white colour with gold and black flecks of micas, the rock has a unique chemistry and resulted in the rich mineralisation of ores in the area. The samples are suitable for collectors and educational use to show granite variants, available in three sizes. Each piece will come supplied in a card tray with an information label.

The Estwing E6-24PC geological hammer, also known as the ‘Big Blue’ hammer is a pointed tip strike tool which features a wider flat face, delivering more force per strike, making breaking and crushing of rock much easier. Augite andesite igneous rock specimens from Thirlmere, Cumbria, UK which are of late Ordovician age which form part of the Barrowdale volcanic group. The samples are of intermediate composition and contain phenocrysts of the pyroxene mineral, augite, giving the normally dark blue rock a black speckled appearance. Brockram Breccia specimens sourced from Hoff, Cumbria, UK. Breccia, a type of clastic sedimentary rock, is characterized by its coarse-grained and poorly sorted nature, containing large angular fragments embedded in a finer-grained matrix.
Brockram is a basal breccia, composed of cemented limestone and sandstone fragments originating from the Permian period. The Permian was the last period of the Paleozoic era and occurred approximately 299 – 251 million years ago.
These samples are available in various sizes and are presented in a white card tray along with accompanying information label.

Specimens of Ironstone that have been collected from Breitung Mine, Marquette County, Negaunee, Michigan, USA. These specimens are a deep reddish brown in colour with some specimens exhibiting clear banding. Please note that banding is not visible on all pieces.
