This rare nummulitic limestone was collected from Eocene strata in Soissons, Aisne, France. Nummulites are a type of Foraminifera however they can be large enough to see with the naked eye and some grow up to 5 cm in diameter. Nummulites Laevigatus is a species which grows to be particularly large. They are lenticular in shape and are easily recognisable due to their abundant coils which are punctuated by septa. In these examples the Nummulites fossils vary in size between 0.5 and 1.5 cm in diameter and they are contained within a limestone matrix throughout. We have numerous sized limestone blocks available, supplied in either 2″ x 2″, 3″ x 2″ or 4″ x 3″ card trays according to the size of the specimen. We also have a few extra large specimens in stock, these blocks measure approximately 12 x 13 cm and are expected to sell fast. This specimen is supplied with an information label but are too large to fit into any trays.
