Specimens of Rapakivi Granite sourced from South Finland, which have undergone cutting and polishing. This particular rock belongs to the Granite family, and shares the typical characteristics of granite. Those being a coarse-grained, plutonic igneous rock, consisting of orthoclase feldspar, quartz, and biotite mica.
What distinguishes Rapakivi from other granites is its higher hornblende composition and a rim of oligioclase (a variety of plagioclase) surrounding the large orthoclase phenocrysts. Notably, the orthoclase feldspar in Rapakivi Granite tends to form in an orbicular shape, lending it a distinctive appearance.
Rapakivi, although relatively uncommon compared to other granites, occurs in locations such as North and South America, southern Greenland, southern Africa, India, China, and Finland.
Our Rapakivi Granite specimens have been cut and polished to achieve a glossy finish, and are available in four sizes. Each piece comes packaged in a white card tray accompanied by an information label.

Shap granite igneous rock specimens from Shap Fell, Cumbria, UK which exhibit typical coarse grained crystalline textures expected of intrusive felsic rocks, being composed of quartz, plagioclase and orthoclase feldspar and biotite mica. This popular granite is very sought after for a variety of applications and has a colourful appearance. It is believed to have formed during the early Devonian period as a plutonic intrusion in the area and is quarried extensively. Samples are ideal for collectors of all levels and ages as well as all educational levels as the minerals can be easily described with the origin and processes being suitable to teach higher level students. Samples are available in three sizes and come supplied in a card tray with an information label.
We also supply Shap Granite thin sections for microscope study which are available to buy HERE.
Adamellite granite also known as shap granite from Cumbria, famous for its large pink feldspar crystals his granite is well known. The samples come from the Shap Quarry, Shap Fell, Cumbria and are supplied in a polythene bag in lots of 1 kg with a label.
Granite adamellite thin section slide exhibiting crystals of quartz, biotite and feldspar. We collected this material from the famous Shap Fell quarry, in Cumbria hence the rocks alternative name ‘ Shap Granite ‘.
We provide a full range of igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic and mineral thin sections. Click here to view them. Should you require a microscope, they can be found here.

German Eclogite specimens from Weissenstein, Bavaria. Eclogite is a metamorphic rock, featuring red garnets within a matrix of sodium rich plagioclase called omphacite. These samples are perfect for both collectors and for educational use. They come supplied in a white card tray with an information label. Limited stock available.
Specimens of Ironstone that have been collected from Breitung Mine, Marquette County, Negaunee, Michigan, USA. These specimens are a deep reddish brown in colour with some specimens exhibiting clear banding. Please note that banding is not visible on all pieces. These specimens are available in very limited supply with three sizes to choose from. They come supplied in a white card tray with information label.
Additionally we also have one large display piece available, measuring approximately 18cm x 15cm at its widest points. This display specimen exhibits a distinct botryoidal texture on its top surface, making it an intriguing and appealing specimen to add to any collection.
Brockram Breccia specimens sourced from Hoff, Cumbria, UK. Breccia, a type of clastic sedimentary rock, is characterized by its coarse-grained and poorly sorted nature, containing large angular fragments embedded in a finer-grained matrix.
Brockram is a basal breccia, composed of cemented limestone and sandstone fragments originating from the Permian period. The Permian was the last period of the Paleozoic era and occurred approximately 299 – 251 million years ago.
These samples are available in various sizes and are presented in a white card tray along with accompanying information label.
Estwing E6-22BLC is a moderately heavy geological hammer featuring a wider than usual flat breaking face for crushing material along with a wide chisel edge for cutting, chipping and prying material. Suitable for both hard and soft rock geology, the hammer is cast from a single piece of American steel and features the anti-shock grip with a blue colouration for easily visibility. The hammer offers a hefty weight giving excellent force per strike along with suitable control.

Andesite igneous rock specimens of late Ordovician age which form part of the Barrowdale volcanic group. The rocks come from Cumbria, UK and have a dark colouration with a blue tint and may contain augite crystals. The rocks are intermediate in chemistry and suitable for higher level education to explain the difference in various igneous groups. Samples are available in 3 sizes and will come supplied in a card tray with an information label.
We also supply Andesite thin sections for microscope study which are available to buy HERE.
Accretionary lapilli tuff is an igneous pyroclastic rock, these samples come from Longsleddle, Cumbria in the UK and forms when hot ash and debris is ejected from as volcano. Some of this material is held together by moisture and once heavy enough, falls into the ash below forming small ‘spots’ within the material, creating a speckled rock. The samples are suitable both for young and serious collectors as well as educational use and are supplied in various sizes with a card tray and label.
