An off white coloured streak plate made form porcelain, they are used by field geologists and students as a means of performing streak tests on minerals. This test simply involves one, scratching the surface of the tile with a particular rock or mineral, the coloured streak left behind then assists the user in determining the mineral, or minerals within a rock sample. (See below a list of some common minerals and their streak colours). The tiles are made from porcelain, a strong, tough material and also has a matt finish and a very slight, fine textured surface. The white coloured streak plates are ideal when observing dark coloured minerals, ones which streak may not show up or otherwise be too difficult to observe on a black streak plate. Each plate measures 45 x 45 mm each and come supplied single with discounts available on quantities.

A tungsten carbide scriber for geophysical testing of minerals, performing scratch tests in the field according to the Mohs scale of hardness. Tungsten carbide is at 9 on the mohs scale of hardness and so this scriber is more suitable for harder minerals. Knurling along the body gives users extra grip and the built in magnet will allow for magnetic testing of iron bearing material. The tip is reversible for safe storage and a pocket clip allows for placing in your shirt pocket or along a notebook.

The Estwing E3-22P is the premier pointed tip geological hammer, made in the USA from a single piece of drop forged American steel, this hammer features a flat face for crushing and cracking rock along side a pointed tip which is excellent for prying, chipping rock as well as extracting minerals or crytsals from their matrix, where a delicate touch may be required. The handle is made from anti shock vinyl and features a loop hole to thread a lanyard through.

Technical Specification:
Orange calcite is a coloured variation of the mineral calcite (calcium carbonate), it has an orange hue to it due to the presence of haematite impurities, these particular specimens exhibit a more crystalline, fine grained crystal texture in which the individual crystals are too fine to be seen, however, the crystal have grown and interlocked with each other to form a large mass, known as ‘massive’. Calcite its self is among the most common mineral found naturally, quite often as mineral deposits but also in many sedimentary rocks, either as a cement or as crystal inclusions, particularly limestone. It is well known for being a fairly soft mineral, easily scratched, coming in at 3 on the Mohs scale of hardness. These particular pieces are suitable for enthusiasts and educational use, both because of the calming blue colour and also the crystal structure and as a means to display the various colours a mineral can be found. Supplied in lots of 1kg, in a heavy duty polythene bag with information label.
