Petalite is a feldspar mineral, also known as Castorite. It is a pale pink, white or sometimes transparent mineral in the monoclinic system. It was named by the Brazilian naturalist Jose Bonifacio de Andrada e Silva, the name being derived form the Greek word ‘petalon’ which describes it’s perfect leaf like cleavage. Early industrial uses for petalite were in the production of glass ceramic wares, such as many early cook ware items. However, in the modern day, its most important use is that it is a source of lithium, an element which today is found in most batteries for portable devices such as tablets, phones, laptops and more. These particular specimens come from Bikita, Zimbabwe, a well known economic source of petalite. These specimens are available in limited sizes & are supplied in a card tray with information label.

Stunning Nepheline crystals from Tafilalet, Morocco. Nephaline is a rare feldspathoid mineral that has a hexagonal crystal system. Crystals typically occur as short 6 sided prisms that terminate with a flat basal plane, as evidenced by our specimens. Some of our specimens exhibit rare massive black garnet but this is no guarantee. One of the key diagnostic features of nepheline is the ease at which is deteriorates in acid, this can result in leaving a once clear crystal looking cloudy on the surface; this can be seen in some of our specimens. Each specimen is supplied in a card tray with an information label. This rare and unique mineral would be a welcome addition to any collection.

Specimens of Salt Pseudomorphs on a limy matrix, collected from the Triassic Aust Cliff in Avon, UK. Salt Pseudomorphs serve as important inicators of paleoenvironmental conditions. They typically form in semi arid (dry) climates, where saline water evaporates, which leaves behind cubic salt crystals. These salt crystals later dissolve, occasionally preserving their cubic imprints These specimens are available in multiple sizes and come supplied in a white card tray with an information label.
