Epidote crystal sheaths from Madagascar, exhibiting a deep rich green colouration and the expected vitreous lustre when viewed from certain angles of light. This mineral specimen exhibits the high quality aspects of epidote such as the prismatic crystals and green to black colour. Clusters such as this are sometimes known as ‘fans’ and it is easy to see why. The mineral was named in 1801 by René Just Haüy, a prominent French mineralogist and founder of the Musée de Minéralogie in Paris, France. The name is derived from the Greek word Epidosis, which mean “increase” in reference to the crystal characteristic of one longer side at the base of the prism. Excellent mineral specimens with a radiating crystal habit, ideal for serious collectors or educational establishments. Supplied in a white card tray according to the size of the specimen.

Specimens of Salt Pseudomorphs on a limy matrix, collected from the Triassic Aust Cliff in Avon, UK. Salt Pseudomorphs serve as important inicators of paleoenvironmental conditions. Iceland spar is a clear variation of calcite, it exhibits the rhombic crystal system of calcite perfectly, the crystals easily divide into rhombs, making them well sought after for a variety of reasons. Originally reported from Helgustadir Mine, Eskifjord, Iceland, hence its name. One of the most remarkable aspect of Iceland spar is its refractive properties. When light passes through one of the crystals, it is divided into two rays at different angles which results in a double refraction effect. Essentially, anything seen though the crystal is seen in double. This can best be seen if you place the calcite over some text, it will appear as if it has been printed twice. These mineral samples come from Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico and are available in 2 sizes: Upto 1″ and Over 1″. They come in a card tray with an information label.
