Specimens of Ironstone that have been collected from Breitung Mine, Marquette County, Negaunee, Michigan, USA. These specimens are a deep reddish brown in colour with some specimens exhibiting clear banding. Please note that banding is not visible on all pieces. These specimens are available in very limited supply with three sizes to choose from. They come supplied in a white card tray with information label.
Additionally we also have one large display piece available, measuring approximately 18cm x 15cm at its widest points. This display specimen exhibits a distinct botryoidal texture on its top surface, making it an intriguing and appealing specimen to add to any collection.

Samples of Ironstone gathered from Breitung Mine located in Marquette County, Negaunee, Michigan, USA, showcase a rich hue of deep reddish-brown, occasionally presenting clear bands. It’s important to note though that not all pieces exhibit this banding feature. Comprising three iron-rich minerals—Hematite, Goethite, and Magnetite—this ironstone was frequently accompanied by quartz waste during its extraction. Dating back to 1844, the Breitung Mine holds historical significance, though it is no longer active. It was never a sizeable endeavour even during its operational phase however, featuring only a single recognised shaft. These rocks originate from the Paleoproterozoic era, dating back approximately 2.5 to 1.6 billion years. These specimens are only available in very limited quantities and are offered in three size variations, arriving in a white card tray accompanied by an informative label.
Alternatively, we offer a single large display piece measuring approximately 18cm x 15cm at its widest points. This showcased specimen features a distinctive botryoidal texture on its upper surface, adding an intriguing element to any collection.

Angelite is a popular trade name for a variety of Anhydrite that is light blue-grey in colour, semi-transparent, fine grained and marketed as gem material. These specimens, along with most angelite, are from Lima, Peru and were collected near the Casapalca Mine at Casapalca, Huarochiri Province, Lima Department, Peru.
Massive specular hematite from Brazil, black colouration and metallic lustre which gives the crystals a sparkling appearance. These particular specimens are of specularite crystals in a massive form, therefore the samples have a highly crystalline texture. They come from Brazil and give off a metallic shimmer when held under certain lighting. Available in various sizes and supplied in card tray with an information label.
Rhodonite specimens from Peru display a signature pink color, and are of manganese silicate composition. They also contain significant amounts of magnesium, iron, and calcium (Mn,Fe,Mg,Ca)SiO3.
Rhodonite, an uncommon mineral, typically thrives in metamorphic rocks and other manganese-rich regions. It claims its presence in nine main localities: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, India, Russia, Sweden, and Peru, along with a few states in the USA.
These specimens boast a massive crystal structure, granting them a granular appearance, while the rarer ones boast red, triclinic crystals.

Specimens of Puddingstone, collected from Hertfordshire, UK. Puddingstone is a variation of conglomerate, which is term used to describe a coarse grained sedimentary rock, featuring large, well rounded clasts in a finer grained matrix. It dates back to the Paleocene to Eocene period around 56 millions years ago. This particular rock is composed almost entirely of silica and has no porosity, likely contributing to its notorious hardness. This rare rock is only found in quantity at one locality in Hertfordshire. As such, it is becoming exceedingly difficult to obtain. This rock is available in multiple sizes and each piece comes supplied in a white card tray with information label.

Amygdaloidal basalt is an igneous rock which is extrusive in nature, these specimens formed over 60 million years ago during the Tertiary period and come from Ireland. They are part of the Antrim lava group and exhibit a dark colouration with occurrences of amygdales containing quartz and calcite crystals. As a basalt they are somewhat dense, but lighter than pure samples due to the cavities within them which formed as a result of gaseous activity during their ejection. Over time, hydrothermal fluids pass through the rock and minerals form within the cavities, which gives the usually dark coloured rock a speckled appearance. These samples are available in various sizes and are suitable for higher educational use to detail the subtle differences between similar igneous rocks, they come supplied in a card tray with an information label.

Massive Biotite Mica specimens, collected from Arendal, Norway. These specimens depict a “massive” crystal structure, as opposed to the more commonly seen sheets. Like all biotite mica, these specimens are dark in colour, exhibiting a dark grey to black hue. Mica is one of the most common mineral groups, with biotite being the most abundant member. Biotite is very common in igneous and metamorphic rocks, with the dark minerals in granites, pegmatites and gneiss often being due in some part to the presence of this black mica.
